Amelia Lily and of course Pink have all done it. That is - dyed their hair
pink!
In April I exchanged my blonde locks for pink. It's
something I've always wanted to do, but never quite had the balls to do it.
"Why
pink?" people have asked.
Pink has been a recurring theme in
my life. My first car was pink, my laptop, bedroom, phone, clothes and so forth. It was only a matter of time before my
hair became pink too. However my pink addiction stops here - a pink smurf I’ll
never be!
As you can imagine, my hair doesn't
go unnoticed and I've been stopped in the street, shops, on the tube and even public toilets to ask me various questions about my hair.
Here are some questions I've been
asked;
1. How
did you get your hair that pink?
2. How
long does it last?
3. Would
it work on dark hair?
4. Is
it permanent?
Is it your natural colour? (Yes
really!)
Apart from the 'obvious' question, I will answer these questions and hopefully help the
'pink-curious' people out there.
1. Unfortunately
it's not a home dye. My hairdresser mixes colours to create my shade of
pink. It took a few trips to the salon before we got it right! If you live in Essex she can
be found at K.hair, Sun Chasers in Romford and she doesn't charge extortionate salon
prices. Alternatively 'Crazy Colors' http://www.crazycolor.co.uk are a semi-permanent option. They offer
three different shades of pink. I recommend starting with candy floss, a very
light/baby pink.
2. Lasting
power depends on the shade of pink and how you take care of your hair. I
started off with a very light pink and this lasted around 4 washes, not long
at all and expensive to maintain. I've been various shades of pink and it's
fair to say the pinker you go the longer it will last. Conditioning your hair is so important because in my opinion it keeps
the colour fresh. Top up the pink by adding a crazy color (I use pinkissimo) to your conditioner and leaving it in for 15-30 minutes.

3. I'm
not a hairdresser by all means, but I do know it takes a lot of hard work to transform dark hair to pink. It would require lightning and possibly bleaching your hair. Speak to your hairdresser for the science!
4. No
it's not permanent. Please be aware any shade of pink will eventually fade. If you decide you don’t like the colour you can easily revert back to your normal colour.
Warning!
- Pink hair clashes with certain colours, which unfortunately means what you wear becomes very important. Pack away the greens and purples!
- This principle also applies to make up. You may have to rethink your bronzer or shade of lipstick.
- Do not dye your hair pink if you want to fade into the background, because you can't. Even on days when you feel rotten or have a stinking hangover and want the ground to swallow you up!
- You will be called anything else other than your own name. 'Pinky' or 'candy floss' to name a couple.
Thinking about going pink? My only advice is to be bold, brave and just do it!
